Main professional activities:

In addition to his private practice with Ahmad Alsaif Law Office as well as his role as Council Member of the Human Rights Council of Saudi Arabia in Riyadh, Dr. Alsaif represents the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia at various conferences and events, most recently including the 7th Session of the Conference of States Parties to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities at the UN Headquarters in NY in July 2014 and the 11th Session of the sister Conference at the UN Headquarters in Geneva in March/April 2014. Dr. Alsaif was also a high-level representative and contributor to the working papers at the General Assembly High-level Meeting on Disability and Development: Achievement of the Internationally Agreed Development Goals with Respect to Persons with Disabilities in New York in September 2013 as well as a contributing as an active speaker and advocate for persons with disabilities in Saudi Arabia and globally.

Other main activities in the field relevant to the mandate of the treaty body concerned: Dr. Alsaif is a member of several professional associations and councils including the Saudi Disability Association, the Islamic World Disability Council, the American Persons with Disabilities Association, and the British Association of Legal and Social Philosophy. In addition to actively contributing to these professional associations, Dr. Alsaif has facilitated and participates as a trainer in the Advanced Training on the International Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in Saudi Arabia. Additionally, Dr. Alsaif has assisted in the organization and the implementation, and has participated actively in the Training Workshop on Preparing National Reports Regarding the Implementation of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, a collaboration between the United Nations, Gulf Cooperation Council, and League of Arab States.

Information on Saudi Arabia's Candidatures to Multilateral Organizations and Bodies


The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has presented its candidature to the following bodies:

- Human Rights Council (HRC) for the term 2017-2019 at the elections to take place in New York in October 2016.

- United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) for the term 2015-2019 at the elections to take place in Paris in October 2015.

- International Maritime Organization (IMO) for the term 2016 - 2018 at the elections to take place in London at the Annual Meeting of the Member States of the International Maritime Organization from 23 November to 5 December 2015.



Human Rights Treaty Bodies

- Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) for the term 2017 - 2020 at the elections to take place in New York in June 2016.


ECOSOC Committees

- Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (CCPCJ) for the term 2016 – 2018 at the elections to take place in New York in April 2015.

- Executive Board of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) for the term 2017-2019 at the elections to take place in New York in April 2016.
