Ambassador Al-Mouallimi Chairs the First UN Counter- Terrorism Advisory Board Meeting Print E-mail

Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the United Nations, Abdallah Y. Al- Mouallimi, chaired, on 2 April 2012, the first Advisory Board meeting in New York of the newly established UN Counter-Terrorism Centre (UNCCT). The meeting discussed areas of work of the Center for the upcoming three years. "The first board meeting comes at a time when cooperation among States in counter-terrorism efforts is of essence", Ambassador Al-Mouallimi noted.

The Advisory Board consists of 21 Member States plus the European Union. Ambassador Al-Mouallimi will chair the UNCCT for the first three years of its work. He has extended an invitation to the Board Members to convene their second meeting in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia 2-3 June, 2012, which will be attended by Saudi Minister of Foreign Affairs, HRH Prince Saud Al-Faisal, and UN Secretary-General Mr. Ban Ki-moon. Saudi Arabia has agreed to provide funding to the Centre of $10 million over the first three years of its work.

The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT) Executive Director has announced during the First Advisory Board meeting of the UN-Habitat's Special Human Settlements Programme for the Palestinian People the awarding of the Saudi Crown Prince Naif bin Abdulaziz, Deputy Premier and Minister of Interior, with their "Outstanding Donor Award" for his crucial support to the Special Human Settlements Programme for the Palestinian People in the last years.

 

Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the United Nations, Abdallah Y. Al- Mouallimi, attended the meeting and expressed his deep gratitude and thanks to the Programme for granting the award to His Royal Highness. He reiterated that Saudi Arabia will always be among the top nations when it comes to providing all types of assistance to the Palestinian People.

Ambassador Al-Mouallimi meets with UN Secretary-General Print E-mail

Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the United Nations, Abdallah Y. Al- Mouallimi, met with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon in the latter's office. Ambassador Al-Mouallimi conveyed  to the Secretay-General a letter from the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz, in which he announces a $25 million donation from Saudi Arabia to the Global Fund to Fight Aids, Tuberculosis and Malaria. UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon conveyed his gratitude to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for its generous donation. Ambassador Al-Mouallimi reiterated that Saudi Arabia will always be among the top nations when it comes to helping those in need around the globe.

General Assembly Condemns Plot to Kill Ambassador of Saudi Arabia to the United States Print E-mail

The Permanent Mission of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the United Nations warmly welcomes the adoption of resolution “Terrorist Attacks on Internationally Protected Persons” by the United Nations General Assembly, which "deplores the plot to assassinate the ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the United States of America".

 

The Saudi-introduced resolution received strong support from member states of the United Nations. It was co-sponsored by 58 states from all regions of the world and was passed by 106 votes against 9. This resolution sends a strong message against terrorism and acts of violence for whatever purposes. The Saudi Mission reiterates that the international community should always take a clear and strong stand against violators of international law and United Nations resolutions.

General Assembly Adopts Saudi Resolution “UN Center for Counter Terrorism” Print E-mail

(New York, New York)-  The Permanent Mission of Saudi Arabia to the United Nations welcomes the unanimous adoption of resolution “UN Center for Counter Terrorism” by the United Nations General Assembly.

 

On September 19, 2011, the United Nations and the Government of Saudi Arabia have signed a contribution agreement for the creation of the United Nations Centre for Counter-Terrorism (UNCCT). Saudi Arabia will contribute $10 million over three years for the center.

 

The Center will support the implementation of the United Nations Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy, foster international cooperation, strengthen the Organization’s capacity-building efforts, and help building a database concerns best anti-terrorism practices.
