Saudi Permanent Mission to the United Nations and Consulate- General Celebrate the National Day in New York Print E-mail

The Saudi Permanent Mission to the United Nations and the Consulate General of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in the New York have celebrated the Saudi National Day on Wednesday, September 17, 2014. The Permanent Representative to the United Nations, H.E. Ambassador Abdallah Y. Al-Mouallimi and the Consul-General of the Kingdom in New York, Mr. Khalid bin Mohammed Al-Sharif has held a ceremony on this occasion in the Waldorf Astoria Hotel, attended by the Secretary General of the United Nations, H.E. Mr. Ban Ki-moon, and Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, Mr. Jean Ellison, and the President of the General Assembly to the United Nations, H.E. Ambassador John Ashe, a large number of officials of the United Nations and the permanent representatives of the Member States to the United Nations, and the consuls of Arab, Islamic, and other friendly countries.

Ambassador Mouallimi gave a speech on this occasion in which he said, "We celebrate the anniversary of the National Day of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia which is the anniversary of the unification of this Country. As you know, the Saudi experience is the most important and successful experience of unionism at the level of the Arab world during this century and the previous one. Thank God, Saudi Arabia today more than any time before, is a castle for stability and an oasis of prosperity not only for its children but for the children of the Arab and Islamic Nation. It extends its goodness and its bid to include the whole world in general and the Arab and Islamic world in particular; in addition to its effective contribution at the international level in the fields of mutual relations and international cooperation."

The Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon, gave a speech on this occasion in which he congratulated the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz, and Crown Prince and Second Deputy Premier and the people of Saudi Arabia, praising the pivotal and important role of Saudi Arabia, stressing that the Kingdom is a founding member of the United Nations and that he seeks to build a strong partnership between Saudi Arabia and the United Nations. The Secretary-General also stressed that the Kingdom is an influential force in the international arena by saying, "We are closely working with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to achieve world peace, development issues, and human rights; the three axes upon which the United Nations is based."

The event was attended by members of the Saudi Mission, consular and diplomatic corps, and a number of esteemed individuals of politics and economics of various nationalities; in addition to a large number of Saudi citizens, students on scholarships, and businessmen and members of the Arab and Muslim communities present in the United States. At the end of the ceremony, commemorative photos were taken.

Saudi Arabia and Solomon Islands sign a protocol on the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries Print E-mail

On behalf of His Royal Highness Prince Saud Al-Faisal, Saudi Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. the Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the United Nations in New York, Ambassador/ Abdallah Y. Al-Mouallimi, signed a protocol on the establishment of diplomatic relations with the Solomon Islands. On behalf of the Solomon Islands, H.E. the Permanent Representative of Solomon Islands to the United Nations in New York, Ambassador / Colin Beck, signed the protocol.

On this occasion, both their Excellencies assured that their countries being guided by their mutual willingness to strengthen relations and broaden cooperation between them; and in support of international security and peace, have decided to establish diplomatic relations at the Representative Level (Non-Resident Ambassador) in accordance with the Provisions of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations of 18 April 1961.

Both parties are confident that this step will lead to an enhanced and fruitful cooperation between the two countries in political, economic, arts, commercial and cultural fields; and establishing the best friendly relations in various fields.

The Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the United Nations in New York and head of the OIC member states to the United Nations, H.E. Ambassador / Abdallah Y. Al-Mouallimi, held an Iftar (breakfast) reception at H.E.’s residence in honor of H.E. the Foreign Minister of the Republic of Yemen, Mr. Gamal Al-Sallal, who previously served as Permanent Representative of the Republic of Yemen to the United Nations in New York. This ceremony was attended by H.E. the Palestinian Minister of Health, Dr. Jawad Awad, their Excellencies the ambassadors of the Arab Group to the United Nations, H.E. the Deputy Permanent Representative to the Arab League to the United Nations, H.E. the Deputy Permanent Observer of the GCC Mission to the to the United Nations, and the employees of the Saudi Mission in New York.

In his speech on this occasion, His Excellency the Permanent Representative, Abdallah Al-Mouallimi, congratulated H.E. Minister Sallal on his appointment as foreign minister; and praised H.E.’s efforts to defend the issues of Arab and Islamic nations during his country's representation to the United Nations. In addition, Ambassador Mouallimi presented a commemorative trophy to H.E. Minister Sallal. Moreover, the Arab ambassadors expressed their gratitude to H.E. Minister Sallal for his efforts and cooperation with the ambassadors of the Arab-Islamic Group during his tenure as a representative of his country to the United Nations benefiting both the Arab and Islamic nations; and wished him every success in his new position.

Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud has issued a directive to provide the Palestinian Red Crescent in Gaza with SR 200 million.

In a press statement to Saudi Press Agency (SPA), Finance Minister Dr. Ibrahim bin Abdulaziz Al-Assaf said that the directive has allocated this amount for immediate needs of medicines and medical equipment and supplies necessary to treat the victims of the Israeli attacks against the Gaza Strip which claimed the lives of thousands of innocent children, women, elderly and people of special needs.
