The Kingdom's election as a member to the Human Rights Council for 2014-2016 is a true testament to its dedication and commitment to the strengthening, promotion and protection of human rights on the domestic and global front. "The Kingdom views the Human Rights Council as a vital platform for thematic human rights issues being discussed and concrete action taking. The Kingdom’s election to the Council is a standing testament to its commitment to human rights issues on all fronts.” emphasized H. E Ambassador Abdallah Y.Al-Mouallimi, Permanent Representative of Saudi Arabia to the United Nations in New York.

Historic feat for Saudi Arabia: elected non member of the UN Security Council Print E-mail

For the first time in the Kingdom’s history, Saudi Arabia has been elected as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for a period of 2 years, starting early 2014.  This membership defines the absolute commitment of Saudi Arabia towards peace in the World and security in its land. “It is a defining moment in the Kingdom’s history. As one of the first founding members of the United Nations, our election is much to rejoice over. We welcome the positive shift as well as challenges of being part of the Security Council body”, said Saudi Ambassador to the United Nations, Ambassador Abdallah Al-Mouallimi, during a press interview following the election.

H.E. Ambassador Abdallah Y. Al- Mouallimi Chairs a Briefing on the “Practical Correctional Rehabilitation Program and the Role in Countering Terrorism of the Mohammad bin Naif Counseling and Care Center” Print E-mail

The Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the United Nations H.E. Ambassador Abdallah Y. Al- Mouallimi chaired a briefing at the headquarters of the United Nations organized by the United Nations Counter Terrorism Centre (UNCCT) and the United Nations Counter-Terrorism Implementation Task Force (CTITF) in partnership with the Government of Saudi Arabia on the “Practical Correctional Rehabilitation Program and the Role in Countering Terrorism of the Mohammad bin Naif Counseling and Care Center.” The meeting included a brief outline by Dr. Abdulrahman bin Abdulaziz AlHadlaq, Director General of the Department of Intellectual Security in the Ministry of Interior on the strategy of Saudi Arabia in countering intellectual violence and extremism. The meeting also included a briefing by Major General Saeed bin Ameer AlBeshi, Head of the General Department and Brigadier General Dr. Mansoor bin Saeed AlQarni, Head of the Counseling Department, from the Mohammad bin Naif Centre on the Counseling, Care and Rehabilitation and Aftercare programmes.

 

H.E. Ambassador Al Mouallimi highlighted Saudi Arabia’s active role in countering international terrorism and extremism, and expressed delight at the opportunity to showcase the experience of the Mohammad bin Naif Centre for Counseling and Care as a pioneer in the field of rehabilitating individuals who were involved with terrorist groups.
