25 July 2012,
The Arab Group expresses its deep concern about the deteriorating situation in the Palestinian Occupied Territories. Israel continues, unabated, in its policy of expanding settlement activities throughout the West Bank. It continues its attempts to change the nature and character of the city of Jerusalem, including by confiscation of land and eviction of Palestinian citizens from their homes. It continues to hold thousands of Palestinian captives, including those held without charges or trials. And it continues its policy of building its illegal and racist wall of separation across Palestinian land. In short, Israel continues its policy of defying the international community and all relevant United Nations resolutions.
The Arab Group deplores the inability or unwillingness of the Security Council to take the measures necessary to end the Israeli occupation. We call upon the council to act promptly to salvage the diminishing chances of peace. An end must be put to the siege of Gaza and to the occupation of the West Bank, the Golan Heights, and Lebanese occupied territories. We also call upon the Security Council to respond favorably to the invitation extended by President Abbas to visit Palestine and inspect facts on the ground. This is the least that the Council can and should do.
